Show n Funeral Services Held Today In North for H i Anna Jams Van Orden I Funeral services are being held "f at 3 p.m., today (Thursday) in the Deseret Mortuary, at Salt Lake City, for Anna Jarvis Van Orden, 58, who was drowned near V Saltair' at an early hour Sunday j evening. She had been in poor f7 health for several months but was improving and according to letters let-ters to her daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Elean-or Jennings of Rockville, she had been advised by her physician to try the Lake bathing as soon as she felt strong enough. It is assumed as-sumed she had gone by herself for a plunge and been overcome by the salt water or perhaps suffered suf-fered a heart attack. She was not an expert swimmer. Her clothing was found in one of the dressing rooms and was identified by items in her handbag hand-bag found by one of the caretakers care-takers at the resort Monday evening. eve-ning. Van Orden (Continued from first page) from where she was last seen wading, near Cyprus beach in shallow water. Born in St. George July 8, 1882, she was a daughter of George F. and . Eleanor Cannon Woodbury Jarvis. She was educated in St. George and at the Brigham Young university in Provo, where she met William F. Ward, whom she married in the Salt Lake Temple May 20, 1903. He died in 1925. She was married to Peter Van Orden in the St. George Temple May 22, 1926. He died the same year. She was a member of the L.D.S. church and active in the auxiliary organizations, especially in genealogical gen-ealogical work. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Ward Jennings of Rockville; and Mrs. Catherine Ward Johnson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and two sons, Frederick J. Ward of St. George and Clarence G. Ward, now stationed at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif. ; two sisters, sis-ters, Mrs. Ella J. Seegmiller of St. George and Mrs. Rose J. Thompson of Cedar City, and two brothers, Orin W. Jarvis of Fresno, Fres-no, Calif.; and Dr. Clarence S. Jarvis of Washington, D. C, and five grandsons. She resided in Salt Lake City for the past several years and, respecting her wishes, conveyed to her children prior to her death, funeral services and burial will take place in Salt Lake City. |
