Show HURRICANE Mrs. Thomas Ilinton (AUNT MIX A) Reporter Sterling Russell Post No. 90, the American Legion and Auxiliary Auxil-iary held their regular monthly business meetings at the Legion Hall Saturday evening Nov. 3. Following the transaction of business busi-ness the groups met' jointly for a short program, with Lamar Nielson, recently liberated jap prisoner of war was the speaker. He related many of his experiences. experi-ences. There were also two musical musi-cal numbers. Pvt. Gordon H. camp-jell, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Campbell Jr. is home with his honorable discharge after serving almost 40 months most of the time in Europe. While in England he suffered suf-fered a b'ack injury, being knock- ' ed down by a jeep, and was hos-i hos-i pitalized for several months. Re- turning to his unit he participated in three major battles in France and Germany, and claims he has been in some of the real "hot spots". Since V-E day he has been in charge of German prisoners, guarding, laying pipe lines, and filling other assignments. He never had a furlough during his 40 months service. Wilden Tweedie SlC received his honorable discharge Nov. 1 from the US navy and is home with his family. He was training last at Mare Island. Sgt. and Mrs. Samuel A. Koski of Boulder City spent the week end with Mrs. Koski's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Johnson. Mrs. Vilate Beatty of Burley, Idaho, is here visiting her sister, Mrs. Chloe Beatty. This is their first visit in 37 years. The two women married cousins. Two children were christened in Hurricane North ward Sacrament meeting Sunday. Douglas Clifton was the name given the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs. Elton Stout named their daughter. Randy Lynn. In the South ward services, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice NuttaJl was christened Margaret Alice. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stratton have returned from Salt Lake) Citv. where Mrs. Stratton has been for medical attention. Mrs. Clifton Wilson entertained the Ladies' Pinochle club Saturday Satur-day evening. Mrs. Tim Hoyt and Mrs. Clif-1 ford Spendlove made a business trip to Salt Lake City over the! week end. I Carlos Mangum and his friend, Joe Clercnce of Idaho Falls are here visiting relatives and friends. ' Mr. and Mrs.1 Shirrel Riddle of Los Angeles visited over Sunday; with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Larson, ; parents of Mrs. Riddle. They were enroute to Cedar City where they will spend the winter. Mrs. J. M. Lauritzen of Arizona and her daughter, Mrs. Shirley Ree of Provo were dinner guests i Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Vernet j Hinteon. j Mrs. Lillian Workman entertained enter-tained the 40-Plus club at her' home Saturday evening. j Yvonne Williams and Gloria ; Hinton returned Monday from! Long Beach where they have had summer employment. Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Larson havej returned from spending the week i end in Las Vegas with Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Larson. Mrs. Jesse Gibson atetended the library convention in Cedar City Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin R. Beardall returned to their home in Spring-ville Spring-ville Sunday after spending the week visiting with Mrs. Floyd Wright and Mrs. Ivan Langston. Mrs. Hoyt attended the American Amer-ican Legion auxiliary executive board meeting and luncheon held at the Newhnuse Hotel, Saturday, Nov. 3, and reports a very constructive con-structive program. Mrs. Clarence P.radshaw and son, John Clyde have returned from spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Cot tarn in St. George. A family gathering was held Friday 'at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. D. Sullivan, all but one of the children of the late Wm. I). Sullivan Sr. attending. Present Pres-ent were Mr. and Mrs. Delias Sullivan, Mrs. Rhea Storm, Mrs. Julia Gray, and Mrs. Stella Kemp of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Tingy and Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Hastian of Weston, Idaho; Leo Angell, American Fork; Mr. and Mrs. Iceland Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Sullivan, and Mrs. Wm. Stratton of Leeds; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sullivan, St. George, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Woodbury Wood-bury of Hurricane. Mr. and Mrs. Hyruin Nelson and sons Lamar, Hugh and Shirl of Boulder City, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin englestead of Kanosh visited relatives and friends in Hurricane during last week and attended the party given Tuesday evening, honoring Lamar and Eldon Wright liberated prisoners. Guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Spendlove, were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. .Bloomfield of Riverside, Calif. The two women are sisters. I Pfc. Milton Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Campbell is home with his honorable discharge dis-charge after serving in the army since Jan. 25, 1941. Mrs. Campbell Camp-bell came home witch him. After training in verious west coast camps Pfc. Campbell was sent into the South Pacific in May, 1944. He wears two combat stars on his Asiatic-Pacific ribbon. Returning Re-turning to the homeland Dec. 28, 1944 he spent six months in a hospital before returning to Fort Lewis, Wash, as a prison guard. SJSgt. John Imlay called his mother, Mrs. Ada Imlay Saturday from Atlanta, Ga., saying he is honorably discharged and will soon be home. Mrs. Louise Williams entertain ed a number of friends Tuesday evening at a venison supper. Mr. and Mrs. John Hunt of Phoenix were guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mayse and family. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Stout returned re-turned last week from Salt Lake City where they went to get their son Johnnie, who has been in St. Mark's h6spital since April 9. He is much improved. |
