Show Dixie College News Dr. Ross Hardy is one of the five speakers in a symposium which is to be featured at a meeting of the Utah Academy of science, arts and letters in Ogden Saturday. Conservation is the subject sub-ject to be discussed, with the meeting to be held at the Weber college. The October issue of "Auk," the official publication of the American Amer-ican Ornithologists union, received Monday, contains a 20-page article arti-cle by Mr. Hardy. The article, "Breeding Birds . of the Pigmy Conifers in the Book Cliff region of eastern Utah," is part of the material used by him in his master's thesis several years ago. Another article published in "Copcia," a scientific fish and reptile journal, in cooperation with Lee Lamoreaux, appears in the current issue. Dr. Hardy has been invited to become an active memlier of the national wildlife society. This is an elevation in rank from associate associ-ate member and comes as recognition recog-nition for the conservation education educa-tion work he is doing. He has also been invited to act on the advisory committee of the Ecological Ecolog-ical society of America. This committee com-mittee will attempt to select areas of particular value and interest from a natural history standpoint and attempt to have them set aside for preservation and study. Funeral services for Sheldon Edwards, a graduate last spring from Dixie college, are being held this afternoon at Paragonah. PrPQirtent Glenn E. Snow, as well. as student body officers, will represent Dixie at the services. Sheldon was student treasurer last year and was prominent in many sttident activities during his two years at Dixie. Returned service men may now attend college and have comfortable comfort-able living quarters, according to an announcement made Monday by President Glenn E. Snow. A number of trailer houses will be here soon. Several of them will be placed on the Chauncey Sand-berg Sand-berg property on first east and first south. A complete camp, with full facilities, will be set up there. Servicemen who can locate a room or two in addition may set up the trailer house in connection connec-tion with these accommodations, if they so desire. It is hoped that all interested may be accommodated accom-modated by the time the winter quarter begins on December 3. The Dixie and Hurricane girls were all even following two volley ball contests held in the local gym last Thursday afternoon. The Dixie sophomores won from their Hurricane rivals in two straight games, while the Hurricane fresh-ies fresh-ies came up out on top in two of three matches. The Lambda Delta Sigma club is sponsoring the picture show, "Song of Russia," at the Gaiety theater the 8th and 9th; The new visual education program pro-gram has started at the college. Sound and silent films are being shown to intensify and supplement supple-ment the regular classroom programs. |
