Show ARMISTICE DAY EDITORIAL BY ROY WILLIAMS Legion Post Commander While America looks forward to that day which will hail the dawn of a new era of a just and lasting peace, Armistice Day, 1944, will be observed in every city, village and hamlet of the nation with a solemnity unparalleled in American Ameri-can annals. As casulty lists mount and stars of gold fall heavily on American mothers in this, the most terrible of all wars, the American Legion is arranging an Armistice observance significantly patriotic, deeply reverent and dedicated to the hallowed memory of our war dead men and women of World War I and II. The American Legion, at this time extends recognition of, and' pays tribute to the men and women of our community who are serving with such valor in our armed forces. The Legion feels that the grave aspects of this terrible war year should be given serious consideration, consider-ation, and that Nov. 11. 1944, will be a fitting occasion for the; reconsecration of every person in j America to the high principles which gave us our republic and i for the rededication of our time and efforts to the tasks which ' will bring speedy victory over! our enemies and save the lives of many of our precious sons and , daughters. ' On Armistice Day. 1944. in paying solemn tribute to those who have secrificed their lives for our happiness, we hope it will give us strength and a new de-1 termination to move forward to I an early ending of the war andi the writing of a just and durable! peace. |
