Show County Planning Board Hears Speakers i&cuss County Problems A full day of Planning Board meetings meet-ings were held at St. George Monday Mon-day under the direction of W. O. Bentley, only man of the local board. Attending state officials included Director William Peterson Peter-son and Assistant Director William Wil-liam Owens of the extension division of the U.S.A.C. at Logan, along with Dr. O. J. Wheatley, and Mrs. Camilla Agren. Mrs. Kimball of the State Used Land department, Wilford Day of Cedar City, O. C. Scott and Elias S. Woodruff of the L.D.S. Church Welfare board of Salt Lake City. Also present were Blaine L. C. Turner Soil Conservation director of Cedar City; Mr. Blankenagel, representing rep-resenting the Arizona Strip and several local committee heads. Many of those attending express the belief that this conference brought forth an unusual program of vital material and facts and was productive of much good to this entire section. Reports and addresses took up the morning session and the afternoon was devoted de-voted to project and department reports. Woodruff W. Cannon talked on water storage ana irrigation; ir-rigation; Reid Wilson, LaVerkin, on fruit marketing; George H Lytle on weed control'; Edw. R. Frei, Santa Clara and Melvin Hamilton, St. George on Soil conservation; con-servation; John H. Schmutz on field and special crops; Anson Call on cooperative marketing; George H. Seegmiller on farm to market roads; Wilford Schmutz on Agricultural Conservation; Seth M. Jones, poultry; Zora S. Jarvis, rural health and sanitation; Mrs. Eleanor S. Smith, home economics and household management. Mrs. Chauncey Sandberg and Mrs. Eva C. Webb were present from Hurricane. Hur-ricane. Emery Huntsman of Enterprise attended the conference requesting help in having some of the grazing graz-ing land in that vicinity transferred transfer-red from the Taylor Grazing control con-trol to the Forest service. Weed control also came in for a special discussion. Director Peterson and others commended the program made along this line, stating that white top was virtually virtu-ally under control, but that the district must get busy with wild morning glory and puncture vine. All in all the entire conference was highly gratified with the accomplishments ac-complishments of the conference. Early Tuesday morning County Agent Call, with his secretary, Inez Larson, left for Kanab accompanying ac-companying the state visitors who held a similar convention in that section. |
