Show Dixie College Band Given Ovation After Concert Wednesday The Dixie college band and their leader, Earl J. Bleak, were given an ovation last night at the concert con-cert in the Woodward auditorium. An exceptionally large crowd turned out, and all expressed themselves as being well pleased with the numbers. The band played classic and popular selections, and a number of ensembles were presented. The most pleasing of these was the potpourri of standard overtures played by the brass quartet, consisting con-sisting of Earl J. Bleak, LeRoy Welker, Joe Talley and Paul Neil-son, Neil-son, with Stella Bleak as accompanist. ac-companist. Other numbers were a brass sextet, consisting of LeRoy Wel-( Wel-( Continued on page four) Dixie College Band (Continued from first page) ker, Jack Reber, Elmer Pickett, Joe Talley, Ernest Pulsipher, and Smith Johnson; a tuba solo by Smith Johnson; a trombone-bari tone duet by Joe Talley and Paul Neilson and a reading by Pearl Matheson. Ballard Christensen, Que Bradshaw, and Kenneth and Bowden Kenworthy sang the vocal part in the selection, "God Bless America". The new uniforms of the band added much color to the concert, and they can continue to shine, knowing that finances are now available to finish paying for them. Mr. Bleak deserves much credit tor the excellent performance, as does Mrs. Bleak, who worked with him and played all the accompaniments. |
