Show Citizens Must Cooperate In Care Of Loose Stock Says Romney BY MRS. ROXEY ROMNEY City Councilman Last week the editorial in the County News was well worth considering especially the part about the responsibility of the city in protecting the people's lawns and gardens from loose stock. Of course the editor is right about this. The people who improve and beautify and try to make our city a delightful place to live should be given 100 per cent protection to insure them acainst cattle, mauraders. or anv destructive force. But in spite of all the officers can do in corralling corral-ling cattle, imposing heavy fines and adjusting damage settlements, they cannot be everywhere, and so long as people willlfully turn their cattle out to feed without proper care we can never make progress with our beautification program. Then, too, isn't it more or less a neighborhood problem? The damage is usually done by a neighbor's cow. Someone's fence is weak, or a gate is not fastened properly, or some neighbors, not planting their lot, have rented or given the feed to some one with stock to be pastured off. As a result, the flowers and shrubs of other neighbors are eaten off as far over the adjoining fence as the stock can reach. This problem of beautification then isn't one that city officers can handle alone, it reverts back to the individual and the neighbor and to all the people of the community. So while the city is responsible to a large extent it is up to the individual, each and everyone, to develop an interest in the improvements im-provements in our community. Perhaps it's an educational program pro-gram that we need in the schools, the clubs, the church and the home, if we are ever to reach our goal in beautification. The Lions club is sponsoring (Continued on page ten) Loose Stock Care (Continued from first page) and the rt-K-f society is cooperating cooperat-ing in a t.-auuncation program which will mean much to our city. Lt-t us live, think and promote pro-mote beautification until we make St. GfMr;re a "City Beautiful", one we will all be proud of. |
