Show Hurricane High Debaters Win Cup At BAC Tourney HURRICANE, Utah Hurricane high school debaters, coached by Karl Larson, were declared winners win-ners of the nine schools which attended the invitation debate tournament held at B.A.C. Saturday, Sat-urday, Feb. 25. A loving cup. given by W. F. Mullett of Mullett Jewelry Co. at Cedar City, was awarded to the local debaters, who carried off the laurels from the 10 encounters en-counters in which they engaged. The undefeated cup bearers were Melville Hirschi of Roekville: Russell Cornelius. of Virgin: Harold Hinton and Clark Ballard, of Hurricane. They also received two individual cups, two medals and four certificates of merit from the B.A.C. Two girls teams from Hurricane Hurri-cane high school also deported themselves with honor at the meet. The affirmative team composed com-posed of Ruth Spendlove and (Continued on page ten) Hurricane Debaters (Continued from first page) Elaine Bradshaw, won three out of four debates in which they contested, while Barbara Tweedie and Merline Stevens, who support sup-port the negative side, won two from a possible four. There is a possibility that the district debate tournament, to be held sometime in March, may be held at Hurricane. Principal Nuttall and Mr. Larson are negotiating with Parowan, Cedar City and St. George high schools with that object in view. |
