Show Bishops ot Stake Present Reports Before Conference Special Session Given For Ladies; Speakers Present Problems, and Solutions; M. I. A. Takes Charge Many attended the St. George stake conference held here on Sunday. Sun-day. The Washington choir furnished furn-ished the singing. Demonstrations Demonstra-tions of ward teaching were given under the direction of Wayne Gardner, a member of the High Council. Reports were presented by some of the Bishops in the stake. A special session was given for the ladies in the basement of the Tabernacle under the direction of stake Relief society president, Mrs. Juanita Brooks. The Sunday morning session commenced with Pres. W. O. Bentley presiding and the choir and congregation singing, "Praise To the Man". President Hafen spoke on Christian Ideals end urged the people to give as the new Church Security program might require. He stated that the means received re-ceived by the Church were used wisely and honestly. Francis Kirkham pointed out the opportunities for service thru Priesthood quorum activities. He quoted from the scriptures showing show-ing the necessity for service and the reward that comes thru it. Bishop John Wells spoke of the sacredness of the Latter Day Saint meetings and stated that thru obedience to the commandments command-ments of God and attendance ut meetings, members would receive re-ceive inspiration. Afternoon Session Conference reconvened at 2:00 p. m., with President Bentley presiding. Pres. W. W. McAthur welcomed wel-comed the Saints to the afternoon after-noon session and referred to the reports given Saturday evening. He urged the attendence of the people at Gospel Doctrine classes and stated that they were not at-tending at-tending as they should. John T. Woodbury Jr., and Israel Neilson of the High Council were the next speakers. Mr. Woodbury handled the subject. Mr. Neilson pointed out the fact that religion leads to high realms of living. President Bentley spoke of development de-velopment thru service. Stated that some people would like to be members of a church that didn't require any of their serving serv-ing and developing because there is no responsibility placed upon them. Many of our members shun the responsibility but they shouldn't for a life of service is a life of joy and happiness." Bishop John Wells treated the subject of titheing and related experiences ex-periences regarding the payment of tithes. Inasmuch at it is the close of the year he urged men and women to sit down with their children and figure up what the Lord had given them and pay a. full tithing. The evening meeting was given under the direction of the Mutual Improvement association. It consisted con-sisted of splendid musical numbers num-bers and a talk by Herman Larkin. |
