Miss Verena Adams, instructor instruc-tor of commercial subjects at the Hurricane high school has accepted accep-ted a position as stenographer in the civil service at Baltimore, Maryland. The county school board accepted her resignation and she left Friday evening having hav-ing to be in Baltimore on December De-cember 7. Miss Adams was well liked by her students. Mr. Audrey Stevens and Mrs. Irma Stevens have gone to California Cal-ifornia for a short visit with friends at Huntington Park. Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Ballard of South Rim, Grand Canyon are visiting her arents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Hartley. Glenn Hollihan, foreman on the LaVerkin-Hurrieane bridge went to Boulder Dam on Sunday accompanied by Engineer and Mrs. Johnson. These men are as yet unable to secure means of transportation sufficiently large to the bring the necessary steel pieces to the bridge site. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Knowl-ton Knowl-ton movd into the Sandberg apartments o n Monday. Mr. Knowlton is resident engineer on the road to be onstruted between Hurricane and Berry Springs. Otto Buehrer and his crew of Salt Lake City have arrived to make the brick for the North ward chapel and stake building. The brick are to be made of cement and volcanic cinders. Mrs. Susie C. Wilson left for Manti this morning to attend funeral fun-eral services for her mother, Mrs. Susan Cox. Mrs. Augusta Jennings and daughter, Jona spent the weekend week-end here with other relatives. Last Tuesday evening the Springdale M. I. A. presented a one-act play "Pampered Darling" and a skit, "The Knock Out" to a large crowd. Emerald Jennings Jenn-ings and Eldon Russell furnished musical numbers. Strong and Grant of Spring-ville Spring-ville have been awarded the contract con-tract on the Hurricane-Berry Springs road. Edward Cox and daughter and neice of Salt Lake City entered the Hurricane high school stu dent body on Friday with musical musi-cal numbers and readings. Mr. Cox has been given national recognition rec-ognition for some of his original music. He is 'an accomplished violinist. He is the brother of Mrs. Susie C. Wilson of this town. The P. W. A. recreational center cen-ter is under the management of Reed Wilson and Orrin Clawson. They have outlined the evenings as follows: music, on Tuesday; drama on Wednesday, and free social dancing on Thursday. The small son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Angel suffered severe burns on his head and chest Thursday when he pulled a pan of boiling tomato soup upon him. It was necessary to administer an anaesthetic anaes-thetic before his burns could be dressed. He is in much pain at present. Mrs. Maude L. Naegle of Toquerville To-querville entertained at cards on Wednesday evening. The following follow-ing from here were guests: Mrs. Lena Gates, Mrs. Emereen Graff, Mrs. Grace Staheli, Mrs. Annie Hirschi, Mrs. Annabelle Mclntire, Mrs. Marie Stansworth, Mrs. Ora Williams, Mrs. Edith Bennett, Mrs. Florence Isom and Mrs. Katharine Larson. The Hurricane Ladies' Literary Liter-ary club met on Friday at the home of Mrs. Amelia C. Heaton. A dainty lunch was served to ten members. The afternoon was spent in rug making. Leo K. Homer, Principal of the Hurricane Seminary and stake president Claudius Hirschi attended at-tended a regional semiary convention con-vention at Richfield on Sunday. |
