Show Platform Published By Local Democrats Favors Teacher Aid County Democratic Committee Commit-tee Backs National and State Democratic Policies; Favors State Teachers' Aid. While admitting that they were a trifle slow in getting their platform plat-form published, District Attorney Ellis Pickett, declares there is nothing slow about their platform or the democratic party. The platform comes out strong for the state and national Democratic Demo-cratic platforms and the administration adminis-tration of Governor Blood and President Roosevelt . They declare that a great deal of beneficial legislature leg-islature was enacted and call attention at-tention to the improvements that this city, county, and nation has made with the help of the Democratic Demo-cratic government. Following is the platform: Washington County Democratic Platform We endorse, without reservation, reserva-tion, both the State and National Democratic platforms; we commend com-mend the administration of Governor Gov-ernor Blood and President Roosevelt. Roose-velt. We point with pride to the fact (Continued on Page 10) DEM. PLATFORM (Continued from first page) that during the administration of President Roosevelt so much beneficial bene-ficial legislation of far reaching effect has been enacted. To the National administration we are grateful for the generous help that has been given our communities com-munities to enable them to construct con-struct water systems, sewers, etc., and to our school district which has made possible the erection of three modern school plants. We also commend President Roosevelt and the Democratic administration ad-ministration for their indefatigable efforts to relieve suffering and want, to save homes and other property from foreclosure, to bring about such a marked improvement improve-ment in the condition (of such basic industries as live stock, agriculture, agri-culture, mining, transportation and manufacturing, in the building trades,, and in modernizing, banking, bank-ing, insurance, etc. We affirm with emphasis that spending to preserve the American Ameri-can standard of living is money well spent; that bankruptcy of a nation only occurs when men are idle factories are still, and schools and' banks are closed; that danger to our form of government lies in a return to Hooverism and the chaotic days of the Republican administration. We favor adequate state aid for teachers' retirement plan and an immediate increase of state aid for the equalization of educational educa-tional opportunities as those enjoyed en-joyed by the urban child. We pledge our candidates to continue their efforts for the completion com-pletion of the Snow Canyon Road and a standard highway between St. George and Enterprise. We also pledge our candidates to work for the completion in the immediate immedi-ate future of the Hurricane cutoff, cut-off, the Hurricane-LaVerkin bridge and the Zion Canyon road through Hurricane. We favor the payment of salaries sal-aries to our county officials commensurate com-mensurate with the responsibilities responsibili-ties involved, the training required, re-quired, and the type of work to be performed. We commend our federal administration ad-ministration for the splendid conservation con-servation work that is being done by the CCC camps, and we favor ! an extension of this meritorious ! program to all sections of the i country. We favor immediate con-J con-J sideration cf the Enterprise flood 1 control project. |
