S. 91 highway t from the Shivwits Indian reser-" reser-" vation to the Arizona state line to connect with the oiled highway across the northwest corner of that state. The road from Anderson's Ander-son's ranch to St. George, and from Toquerville to the La Ver-kln Ver-kln Junction are also included in the state's oiling program in Washington county for 1931. In addition to oiling, the commission com-mission has already published a notice to contractors for the construction con-struction of the section of road from Anderson's ranch to Harris-burg, Harris-burg, a distance of 7.193 miles. As soon as this is completed, it is e:r?tcted that the state will let contract for oiling. The bids for the construction of the new highway will be opened on January 20. On the stretch of road between St. George and the Indian reservation, reser-vation, the state has authorized the expenditure of $3000 to put cn additional gravel in order to place the road in first class condition. con-dition. The same amount also is being spent from Harrisburg to the top of the Washington ridge. These two Jobs are betterment projects, the purpose of which, in addition to improving the road, are to relieve, in a measure, the unemployment situation. Each Monday morning, the entire crew, with the exception of the foreman, fore-man, is changed, in order to give as many men as possible a chance to work. It is understood that the state highway commission will also con-slnict con-slnict a new road through Wildcat Wild-cat canyon this side of the Indian farm. The new route has been surveyed and if constructed will cross Santa Clara creek a short distance above the present bridge. A new bridge will be built. |
