Show Obedience to Health Laws Duty of Parents September Is a momentous month in the history of our nation. Thousands Thou-sands of children have resumed the school work Interrupted last spring by the arrival -of vacation time, or have begun their first year of the educational process which we hope will make able, cultured, enlightened citizens of them. The school has a grave responsibility, responsi-bility, not only toward the child's mind, but also toward Its body. What good Is learning without health? We know, In fact, that the learning process and health are inextricably inex-tricably combined ; the healthy child learns quickest, remembers better, Is more Interested In his work. Recognizing Recog-nizing tills, most modern school systems sys-tems include health teachers and lessons les-sons in health. But the school cannot bear the whole -responsibility for the health of children. The parents and the home are usually more potent directional forces for the health of children than any outside Institution ever can be. Healthy children come from healthy homes. It is the duty of parents to know and observe health laws. Dr. Allen G. Ireland, Director Physical and Health Education, New Jersey State Department of Public Instruction. |
