Show PIONEER OF 1863 PASSES AWAY AT ADVANCED AGE Mrs. Mary McArthur, aged 74 years 10 months and 30 days, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Anderson, at 6:45 Sunday morning morn-ing following an illness of three weeks from flu and heart trouble. Mary Prances Callaway was born at Union Fort, Salt Lake county, on January 31, 1854, a daughter of Levi Hamilton and Mary Van Buren Callaway, Cal-laway, who had come to Utah from Kentucky. The family came to Dixie in 1863 and made their home at Santa Clara, later moving to Beaver for a few years on account of . illness. They returned to Enterprise in 1871. She was married to Daniel D. McArthur McAr-thur on April 10 of that year in the Endowment House at Salt Lakef City. To this union six children were born, four of whom survive, Duncan and Wilford W. and Mrs. Ellen Anderson An-derson of St. George, and Arthur McArthur Mc-Arthur of Salt Lake City. The family, with the exception of Arthur, who could not come on account ac-count of illness, were here at the time of her death. Funeral services were held in the stake tabernacle at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon under the direction of the West ward bishopric, Vernon Wor-then Wor-then presiding. There was a large assemblage and the beautful floral offerings testified to the respect in which deceased was held. A mixed chorus rendered, "Oh, My Father." Prayer, Geo. F. Whitehead. George Worthen, President Edward H. Snow, D. H. Morris and Brigham Jarvis, Sr., were the speakers. Vocal duets were given by Misses Lucile Worthen and Lillian Atkin, and Mrs. Hettie Bentley and Miss Ruth Winsor. Closing prayer was offered by John T. Woodbury, Jr. |
