Show PROGRESS GOOD AT SILVER REEF Work of Much Scientific and Economic Value Being Done at Famous Old Silver Camp Operations are being conducted at two points in the holdings of the American Smelting and Refining Company at Silver Reef. Unwater-ing Unwater-ing of the old California shaft, according ac-cording to Manager A. H. Means of the western mining department, has proceeded to the 290 foot mark or about 130 feet vertically below the collar. According to old maps, the shaft has a vertical depth of about 300 feet. But since no one has been in the old stopes for a half cen tury, Mr. Means is uncertain as. to how much more depth remains to be attained. At present, the crew under the direction of Superintendent C. C. Cushwa is engaged in installing a 350 gallon per minute two stage pump to replace the 300 gallon per minute single stage pump used to date. , WJork is being carried on from two levels of the new shaft down 460 feet. On the 460-foot level, in the east drift a raise has been started to reach the old Savage stope. At the last report from the mine, this raise has been put up 20 feet and a drill hole advanced 16 feet above the back to test the country ahead. Great care is being used in proceeding pro-ceeding ahead. A heavy flow of water wa-ter should be developed when a drill hole connects with the stope as this old opening is full of water. On the 300 level the cross cut to the White reef was driven a total of 245 feet during the month of July. Not much trouble with water Is anticipated. When the old mines are pumped dry, it is believed that the total will not exceed 100 gallons a minute, one pump with a capacity ca-pacity of 100 gallons per minute has been handling the water from the 460 foot level. Another is to be installed to handle any emergency flow that may develop later. Mineral Min-eral Survey. |
