Show PLANE WRECKED IN ! ATTEMPTED TAKE-OFF j Pilot Flyinn by Time Mistook I Ivrns Bench tor Local IjiiiHliiiK Field. F. R. Colihorp of Boise, Ida., who is employed by a Pacific ! coast life insurance company, : completely wrecked his airplane j in an attempted takeoff on the Ivins bench Tuesday afternoon. Colthorp had been flying by time from California, and his watch had stopped. He mistook the Ivins bench for the emergency emer-gency landing field at St. George where he intended to stop and refuel. ' In landing he struck a sand bar which strained the landing gear. Repairs were made at a garage in Santa Clara, and at 3 j p. m. he -was ready to resume 1 his flight. He made a cross-wind i takeoff, but the force of the ! wind was so strong that the plane turned ewer when a short I distance above the ground, and j he had not gained enough alti-j alti-j tude to right it. It was badly I wrecked, but Colthorp was un-1 un-1 injured and left that night by bus. |
