Show State Tax Commission Aids in Reclassification of County Farm Lands Howard R. Leatham and John M. Knight, two of the commissioners commis-sioners from the state tax commission com-mission at Salt Lake City met with the Washington County commissioners and assessors on Wednesday and selected two committees of three practical farmers each, to go over the county and reclassify farm lands for taxation. Two were appointed appoint-ed from Enterprise, two from Hurricane and two from St; George. These men are Luther M. Terry, B. C. Farnsworth, Henry W. Gubler, Richard Isom, Joseph T. Atkin, Sr., and Clarence Clar-ence Schmutz and Lillie Milne. This work has needed to be done for sometime but there have never been the funds available. Under present conditions the C.W. A. will furnish the money. The main benefit, according to the commissioners, will be the equalizing equali-zing of the taxes, by having a uniform price on all types of farm land. With local men doing do-ing the work, men who know local conditions and problems, there should be a fair tax basis developed. These men will be sent into all communities in the county, so that there can be no question of favoritism. This work must be completed by May 1, 1934. The data that is received from the survey will be used as the basis for tax assessments as-sessments in 19 3 5. |
