Show LEGION JUNIOR BALL PROGRAM GETSUNDERWAY All Boys Who Have Not Attained 17th Birthday by June 30, 1931 Are Eligible Eligi-ble to Enter Competition Junior baseball, under the auspices aus-pices of the local American Legion Le-gion post, got under way this week in St. George with the appointment ap-pointment of managers, team captains, cap-tains, etc. The program is sponsored spon-sored this year by the Washington Washing-ton County News. Lee Adams, who has had experience in professional baseball, will manage the team finally fin-ally chosen to represent St. George and he will be assisted by Gordon Whitehead. Four team captains have been appointed as follows: Wesley Nelson, Rulon Snow, Robt. McComb and Kenneth Cannon. Players for the various teams will be drawn by these captains and a schedule for local play drawn up. Any boy who wishes to compete, and who has not yet turned his name in, should call the Washington County News not later than Friday night. The rules of play for the 1931 season are practically the same as last year, and are as follows: The competition is open only to boys who are amateurs,- and who will not have attained their seventeenth birthday before June 30, 1931. A boy born prior to midnight, mid-night, June 29, 1914, is not eligible. eli-gible. Each player must be' a bona fide resident of the community served by the post sponsoring the team in which he enrolls in accordance with the regulations laid down by the department athletic committee or the department executive committee com-mittee of the respective departments. depart-ments. Every player must fill out a certificate of entry and eligibility and each team must register on a certificate of entry. To each player's play-er's certificate of entry and eligibility eli-gibility there must be attached a certified copy of his birth certificate certifi-cate along with the player's signature, sig-nature, for identification purposes. No team may carry more than 15 players, and all players must have 'been enrolled before June 30, 1931. The player personnel of a team can not be changed after af-ter date of official enrollment. Substitutions for purpose of strengthening team will not be allowed under any circumstances. Only in case of death may a vacancy be filled with a substitute substi-tute player, and then only when authorized by the department athletic ath-letic director. Since this is a public-spirited enterprise of the The American Legion in the interests of good citizenship, it is required that players' uniforms shall bear only the lettering or insignia of The American Legion, the Legion post or department, or the town, city, or community represented; except that the name, monogram or other oth-er designation of persons or organizations or-ganizations sponsoring a team will be permitted on the sleeve or on the back of the uniform shirt with letters not over two inches in size. Teams failing to comply with this requirement will 'be disqualified. |
