Show BILLY MALONEY Following is a beautiful poem sent to Vivian Maloney by her son, Billie, who was one of the oil well explosion victims. Mrs. Maloney Ma-loney feels that in this poem one can see a perfect picture of her son. Here is the poem: A Son's Tribute to His Mother by Rober L. Selle Now listen, Mother, while I whisper whis-per in your ear; And do not hurry, do not worry, do not fear; For I have messages for you and you alone, My Mother dear, because you are my very own. Now take the time, all that we need and let me say The things I've carried in my heart from day to day. On many subjects I could speak, however, three, Of Love and Patience, Confidence, just now will be My tjhemes, exhaustless as the sands upon the shore, Which when removed the mighty coming tides restore. The first of which I want to speak to you is love, Which surely came from that great Heart in heav'n above; And as I speak to you of love, your love for me, In gratitude I wonder how such love could be In every way 'twas measureless, thy mother heart, For nothing known could cause that love from me to part; 'Twas tried in many disappointments disappoint-ments as you know, But never failed yonr heart would never let me go! And if 'through life but one should love me true, That one, my precious Mother, surely would be you! And of your patience also I will speak today, To me most wonderful along my youthful way. My life was full of failures and ingratitude, With ugliness and selfishness my daily mood; But in and through it all your patience, greatly tried, My loving Mother, never faltered, never died! Unconscious boyhood needs found their supply in you, For you endured in me what others oth-ers would not do! Your patience with me, marvelous marvel-ous to comprehend, Deserves in me the very best unto the end! Now in conclusion of my little talk with you, The confidence you had in me, you'll never rue; You held me up believed that I would be a man, And Mother dear, my life will show you that I can. Your faith in me was not misplaced, misplac-ed, nor vain nor lost I'll make the man you saw in me at any cost. To that delightful task I pledge myself anew, And with unbroken vows, you'll see what I can do; The things I say to you today are from my soul, And you may watch me, Mother-mine, Mother-mine, I'll make that goal! |
