Show WILL TEST BIG GUNS IN NEVADA Las Vegas will be the scene of 1 the first target practice given the ' two 14-inch railroad guns of the coast artillery, now located at San Pedro harbor, if it is possible to secure the allocation of sufficient funds from the wrar department to defray the expenses of the trip, according to Colonel F. M. Baum, commander of the 605th coast artillery, ar-tillery, who spent last week in Las Vegas in conference with chamber cham-ber of commerce and American Le- gion officials. The colonel decided the best available plan would be to spot the guns at Valley, eight miles north of Las Vegas, on the U. P. main line, and to shoot toward Corn creek. The shells would pass over the Caliente-Corn creek road, which would be policed during the practice. prac-tice. The target would be placed approximately three miles from the Corn creek ranch, which would be vacated during the firing although there would be little danger, the colonel pointed out, except for a possible ricochet of one of the big shells. |
