Show PENSION URGED FOR INVALID The death of Mrs. Susan B: Caldwell at Leeds last week brought to light a very unusual circumstance in regard to the disposition dis-position of government pensions. Mrs. Caldwell's husband, wlto was an Indian war veteran, received receiv-ed a monthly pension and' preceded pre-ceded his wife in death two years ago. On the day of his death this pension was received in the St. George post office and according : to law it was returned to Washington. Wash-ington. Mrs. Caldwell' took the matter up arid worked incessantly for two years-, with the aid of Representative Rep-resentative Don B. Col ton, to receive re-ceive a- widow's pension. Two hours after her death a check for $550 back pension, was received in the Leeds post office addressed to her.. This also was sent 'back, r The case is pathetic in- that Mrs. Caldwell had a son who is lame and both deaf and dumb, who is left without support. |
