Show BOUNTIFUL HONORS MRS. IVY BAKER PRIEST Many friends, fellow workers, state and city officials, met Wednesday Wed-nesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Bountiful LDS Stake Tabernacle Taber-nacle to honor Mrs. Ivy Baker Priest, U. S. Treasurer-designate. Ward C. Holbrook acted as reception re-ception chairman and Mrs. J. E. Trowbridge, mistress of ceremonies cere-monies for the hour and a half program. Former Gov. Charles R. Mabey expressed some well chosen remarks and read a congratulatory con-gratulatory message to Mrs. Priest from President - elect Dwight D. Eisenhower- also a message from Governor J. Brack- en Lee. Mr. Holbrook presented a beautiful beau-tiful dual desk pen set, donated by Kennecott Copper Corp., to Mrs. Priest. The pen set was on a marble base with a solid gold plate with the following inscription: inscrip-tion: "Ivy Baker Priest", U. S. Treasurer, "From your friends of Bountiful and Bingham Canyon, January 1953." Mrs. Priest, who was visibly affected but responded graciously for the program in her behalf, said, "I connot begin to express my thanks to my friends for this night I shall remember it all my life. It is a challenge and a privilege to be Americans let's give it all we have." Mayor and Mr3. C. A. Morley and Mr. and Mrs. George Evans attended the reception and open house for Mrs. Priest, a former Bingham resident. The citizens of Bingham Canyon feel justly nroud that Mrs. Priest will be the next U. S. Treasurer and extend ex-tend best wishes to her and her family for a happy and successful term in Washington, DC. |
