Show Space command to group U.S. efforts The U.S. Air Force will create a military space command to put military space programs under one agency for the first time, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Lew Allen announced. an-nounced. The new command will give the Air Force organizational control over the programs, but will not result in new duties. The command will have responsibility for military satellites, military payloaas in orbiting or-biting space shuttles, the anti-satellite program and tracking of Soviet satellites. Air Force officials said the command will not conflict with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which is responsible for non-military non-military programs. Gen. Allen said the military programs would have continuted anyway, but are now organized under one agency. |
