Young people who are exceptionally adept at gardening gar-dening will be awarded the ... ri-college ri-college scholarships at the 1981 National 4-H Congress, to be held in Chicago from November 29th through December De-cember 3rd. America's 4-H clubs have more than two million members, and they are guided by such objectives as "to develop leadership abilities, br.ild character and assume citizenship .. responsibilities." The 4-H National Gardening Gar-dening Awards Program, sponsored by the Ortho Consumer Con-sumer Products Division of Chevron Chemical Co. for the sixth consecutive year, is one way of recognizing the fulfillment of that objective. ob-jective. Noted Dan Hogan, Chevron Vice President, "It's amazing what these young people accomplish through 4-H programs. They learn not only about gardening, but about the free enterprise system as well. Many of our winners have put this knowledge know-ledge to use with very impressive im-pressive results." Over 400,000 young people peo-ple participate in the garden-ng garden-ng award program. The e'ght national winners receive, re-ceive, in addition to the p!'l $1,000 scholarships, free Wps to the annual Congress. -I Ten sectional winners are also awarded free trips. State winners receive a $75 Savings Bond. The top four winners at the county level receive medals of honor The gardening awards Program, it appears, helps young people grow better plants and grow better themselves. |
