The first place prize in the professional profes-sional division will be $2,000 and second place will be worth $1235. The third place winner will receive $1,000. The other cash prizes are: fourth place, $800, fifth place, $715; sixth place, $665; seventh place, $570; eighth place, $475; ninth place, $425; tenth place, $380; 11th place, $335; 12th place $285; 13th place $235; 14th place, $190 and 15th place $190. The top amateur prize will be $350 in merchandise. Other amateur prizes are: second place, $300; third place, $250; fourth place, $200; fifth place, $150; sixth place, $100; seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, $50. The championship division consists con-sists of amateur golfers. The Eastern Utah Petroleum Invitational Invita-tional Golf Classic replaces the Superior Tire Golf Classic. Past golf classic champions are: George Schneiter, 1971; Bob Droz, 1972; Joey Bonsignore, 1973; Ron Branca, 1974; Rusty Guernsey, 1975; Mike Borich, 1976; Bob Flagler, 1977; Jack Somers, 1978; James Blair, 1979 and Mike Malaska, 1980. Former champions Bonsignore, Guernsey, Borich and Flagler will compete com-pete in the Eastern Utah Petroleum In vitational Golf Classic. Malaska, the defending champion will take part in the Colorado Open, which is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday. Malaska won the 1980 golf classic in Vernal with a score of 138 and had 18 hole tallies of 65 and 72. Ron Vlosich of Green River and Steve LaDonne of Rifle tied for second se-cond place at 143 and Vernal's Mauss and Blair tied for fourth place at 144. Over $36,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. A golf cart and set of tires will be the prizes for the closest to the hole contest on the number one hole and a car will be given to the first golfer who nabs a hole in one on the number nine hole during the tournament. |
