Show Laws for strays frequently violated ', One of the most frequently violated laws in Uintah County involving animal control, according to Jack Lent, animal control officer, is the harboring of animals. Lent said that when people keep stray animals on the property it not only hampers his job of locating the lost animal, but is against the law. ( "Many times people call in and ask if - we have their dog and how are we to know other people have the animal?" Lent pointed out. If a person sees a stray animal on their property they should call the Animal Shelter, 789-5601, or the Sheriff's Department 789-2511. Another growing problem in animal control is that many people let their dogs run loose at night or in the daytime when they are at work. "Owners shall not let their dog run at large at any time without the owner in attendance and on a leash," Lent said quoting the law. Enforcement of these laws will be tightened up. In the past animals which were running at large have gone back onto the owner's property avoiding a citation. "Now we will follow up and animal owners will be cited," Lent warns. Lent also warns a owner whose dog barks at night and receives a complaint will only receive one warning. ' Owners who allow their dogs to bark at night can be charged with disorderly conduct, Lent said. r T&M? Texas was named after af-ter an Indian word meaning "friends." " r' A i 4 k i 8 |
