An organizational meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Vernal Library to select officers and consider local study topics. Study topics which have been suggested at previous meetings of AAUW candidates include "Planning for the impact of energy development," "Needed improvements in the schools", and "Teenage needs in our community." Each chapter picks a topic of local interest and concern, studies the issue, formulates an action plan and then helps to implement those plans to change the situation. Local women who have already applied for membership have done so expressing the hope for an active organization of concerned, educated women who will study and work to bring about real needed improvements in the community. Another intent of the local chapter is to provide a forum for continued intellectual stimulation and socialitation with women one might not meet in other neighborhood or church activities. Women with similar desires are invited to call Mary Jane Godlove 789-6793 or Marie Nelson 789-5480 for more information. |
