Show City sets lower mill levy for 1981 With an increased assessed value of $23,720,000 for the city, the ernal City Council set this year's tax levy at 3 (17 mills which is down from last year but doesn't mean people will pay less taxes. The assessed valuation of the city rose from $19 million in 1381 to the most recent figure of $23.7 million. Because property assessed valuation increased an average of 66 percent, people will pay more taxes despite the lower mill levy. The lower city mill levy represents only a 6 percent increase in tax revenues for the city which is stipulated by state legislation as the maximum increase for a city. After some discussion of the formula approved by the state legislature for assessing property valuation, the council coun-cil unanimously approved the new mill levy which is required to be approved before Aug. 30. The city mill levy last year was 3.29. In other business at last Wednesday's noon council meeting. City Manager Kenneth Massed told the council that the Community Impact Board had approved ap-proved $:UiO,(HtO in grants and loans to the city earmarked for a waterline on 1500 West. The council also decided to postpone any water service to the proposed Ashley Creek annexation, northeast of the city, until the Boundary Commission Commis-sion makes a division on the matter. The council also denied a business license to a tenixrary merchant. Alpine Trading, who was going to sell stereos, waterteds and tools at l.ar-sen's l.ar-sen's Market, 5iR) K Main. Karl Migliori moved the council accept the business license for Alpine Trading if the manager of the company posted a $l,oou bond for any faulty merchandise which w as sold.
