Vernal placed first in the 9th grade division. Vernal Pan v hers nab 9?h grade invivavional crown Vernal Junior High's 9th Grade track team captured first place in the Roosevelt Invitational, Friday with 110 points. Roosevelt placed second at 61 points and West nabbed third place at 16 points. Duchesne nabbed fourth place at 4 points and Tabiona netted fifth place at 3 points. The Panthers nabbed six first places in the meet. Kary Hamilton garnered first places in the 800 yard run at 2:25.9 and placed first in the pole vault at 9'3". Galen Turner netted first place in the discus at 130'2" and placed first in the high jump at 5'9". Clark Emery nabbed first place in the shot put at 48'7l-". Vernal's mile relay team placed first with a time of 4:35.9. Trevor Roberts, Roosevelt, pocketed three first places in the hurdles, 14.6, 100 meter dash, 11.8 and in the long jump, 20'1V. Roosevelt's Eddie Martinez placed first in the 200 meter dash, 24.7 and in the 400 meter dash, 54.7. Roosevelt's 400 relay team placed first at 48.7 and Honanie, West, placed first in the 1600 meter run at 5:04.9. New meet records were set in the high jump, long jump, 400 meter cL.3h, 1600 meter run, shot put and discus. Nabbing second places for Vernal were: Troy Liebhardt, 100, 200; Galen Turner, 800; Jerr y Haslem, high jump, 400, discus; Jody Young, pole valut; and Felix Espinoza, long jump and Vernal's 400 relay team. Also gaining second places were Euper. Roosevelt, hrudles; Gudger, West, 1600; Eddie Martinez, Roosevelt, shot put and Roosevelt medley relay team. Collecting third places in the meet were: Bucky Tingey, Vernal, hurdles; Euper, Roosevelt, 100, long jump; Terry Carlson, Vernal, 200; Warrick, West, shot pur; Strebel, Tabiona, pole vault; Felix Espinoza, Vernal, discus, 800; Bascom, Vernal, high jump,. 1600 and David Rasmussen, Vernal. 400. Nabbing fourth places and fifth places were: fourths-Clark, Vernal, hurdles; Terry Carlson, Vernal, 100, long jump; Percival, Roosevelt, 200; Brady, Duchesne, 800; Madsen, Roosevelt, high jump; Felix Espinoza, Vernal, 1600; Bucky Tingey, Vernal, 400; Galen Turner, Vernal shot put; Young, Duchesne, pole vault and White, Roosevelt, discus. Roosevelt Junior High garnered first place in the 8th grade division with 91 points and Roosevelt placed second at 77M points. West habbed third place at 14 points and Tabiona placed fourth at half a point. Vernal's Neldon Smuin pocketed four first place crowns in the long jump, 17'8M"; 100 meter dash, 11.9; 400 meter dash, 57.7 and 200 meter dash, 25.0. Smuin set new meet records in the 100, 200 and 400 dashes. Kurt Robb, Vernal, placed first in the high jump, 5'6" and in the discus, 112'5". Robb set a new record in the high jump. Vernal also placed first in the 400 meter relay with a time of 50.3. Roosevelt's Chad Richard garnered first place in the shot put, 40'5" and in the 100 hurdles, 15.3. Also nabbing first places were Raymond Sundin, pole vault, 8'9"; Brian Eldredge, 1600, 5:29.8; Shane Mecham, 800, 2:17.1 and Roosevelt's medley relay team, 4:46.9. New records were set in the pole vault, 800 and 1600. Gary Swim, Vernal, collected second places in the high jump and the 800 meters. Brian Richens, 1600 and Kurt Robb, shot put, placed second. Vernal's medley relay team placed second. Also nabbing second places were: Raymond Sundin, long jump; Sherman, 400; Main, pole vault; Hall, hurdles; Chad Richard, 100; Miller, discus; Shelly, 200 and Roosevelt 400 relay team. Also placing the the 8th grade division for Vernal were: Gary Swim, long jump, third; Smarr, 400, third; 200, fourth; Alec Clark, pole vault, third; 100 hurdles, fourth; Kurt Robb, 100, third; Luthi, shot put, third; 100 hurdles, discus, fifth; Brady, 800, fourth; 1600, fifth; Orton, 800, fifth and Lamoreux, pole vault, fifth.
