Show Board capproues budget, ratifies teacher salaries With little discussion, the Uintah County School Board approved the 1980-81 budget for $11,944,739, last Thursday which calls for a 43.75 mill levy. School Board member, Gary Taylor, moved the board accept the budget, and that the actual amount expended for 1979-80 budget constituted the legal final budget. The motion carried. The 1980-81 budget decreases the transportation special levy from 1 mill to '2 mill. The Capital Outlay mill was increased from 16.32 to 18 mills. Last year 4 mills were taken off the Capital Outlay fund. The board asked for an accounting of special funds program section within the next two board meetings which in- eludes special education and Title I. The board will also set the superintendents salary within the next two board meetings. Representing the Teacher's Negotiating Team, Bruce Bishop was called to the board meeting to ratify the teacher acceptance of the board's salary offer. Bishop told the board that two weeks ago about 80 of the teachers present at a Tuesday meeting approved the board's offer of an 11.54 base salary increase and a maximum of $100 bonus if there is over $80,000 in the Reserve Fund at Christmas time. Bishop said most of the teachers "felt good about the board's offer." The board ratified the salary increase after a motion by Gary Taylor. The board also approved an increase in coaching pay: head coaches at the high school were upped from $700 to $1000 except for baseball and track who were upped from $350 to $500. Music - teachers' salaries were increased from $350 to $600. Assistant coaches' salaries were doubled to $600 and assistance coaches to $300. Substitute teachers' pay was upped to $30 a day and $40 a day after extended time approved by the superintendent. Other personnel and ad-ministrators'salaries ad-ministrators'salaries were ratified at 11.54 increase. The board also approved a string instrument in-strument program for up to $650 a year, and they moved to allow Dan Turner, board secretary and treasurer, to borrow bor-row $1 million on tax anticipation notes. |
