Uintfh Ufles rope .Aftcomont Loiigjfhoreis for volleyball Uintah was thumped by Altamont in the first game of the varsity volleyball battle, but the Utes won the final two games, 15 to 6, and 15 to 12, to win a non-league non-league match with Altamont, Thursday in Vernal. The win improves Uintah's record to 2-1. The Utes gained the first two points in the first game, but Altamont rallied as they tied the score and jumped out to a 9 to 2 advantage. Uintah cut Altamont 's lead to four points, 9 to 5, but Altamont scored six unanswered points to win the first game, 15 to 5. Scoring points for Uintah in the game were: Teresa Smith, 3; Chris Mott, 1 and Jodene Merkley, 1. Uintah gained a 1-0 advantage in the second game, but Altamont tied the score at 1-1. The Utes picked up five straight points for a 6 to 1 lead. Uintah increased its advantage to 12 to 4 as they outscored Altamont, 6 to 3. The Utes scored three more points to win the second game, 15 to 6. Tossing in counters for Uintah were: Eileen Howells, 5; Chris Mott, 4; Teresa Smith, 3; Dairann Abegglen, 2 and Lois Merrell, 1. The two teams were tied at one win each and thus a third game was needed. Server Teresa Smith scored four points and the Utes jumped out to a 4-0 lead. However, Altamont blanked Uintah, 6-0, 6-0, for a 6 to 4 advantage. Uintah tied the score at 6-6, and a point by server, Dairann Abegglen gave the Utes a 7-6 lead. Altamont tied the score at 7-7 and nabbed a lead of 9-7, but Uintah tied the game up at 9-9. A good serve by Teresa Smith and a good hit by Kristy McNeill gave Uintah a 10 to 9 advantage. The Longhorns tied the score at 10-10 and gained a 11-10 lead, but an excellent serve by Lois Merrell and a good shot by Dairann Abegglen tied the game up at 11-11. Uintah nabbed a lead of 12-11, but once again Altamont tied up the game at 12-12. Teresa Smith served the ball three times in a row and Uintah scored three points to win the third and final game, 15 to 12. Scoring serving points in the third game were: Teresa Smith, 8; Kristy McNeill, 2; Eileen Howells, 2; Lois Merrell, 1; Dairann Abegglen, 1 and Jodene Merkley, 1. Members of Uin- tah's varsity team are: Lois Merrell, Margie Daley, Janet Hall, Eileen Howells, Jodene Merkley, Chris Mott, Teresa Smith and Dairann Abegglen. The coach is LoaKay Bowthorpe.
