Show C Manila Clara kebinson Phone 784-3463 Arts council to sponsor band concert Sept. 28 The Easy Winner Dixieland Band will be in Manila September 28, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the high school if no one calls to sell you tickets. All of the Art Council has tickets to sell. This program is the first program ever scheduled by the Daggett County Fine Arts Council. The date was other programs scheduled for throughout the year, but the Council is still waiting for approval for the dates for them from the State Fine Arts Council. The Dixieland Band guarantees to fill the hall with fun and the flavor of New Orleans and will be the talk for weeks to come. It is an eight piece band consisting con-sisting of "old timers" who have played with famous musicians such as Tommy Dorsey, Fred Waring, and Count Baise It is a Mardi Gras adventure with Harry Black on piano; Raoul Longworth, banjo and guitar; Richard Sillicron coronet; L. Dee Mangelson, trombone; James R. Brown reeds; Phillip Gard, drums; and Marilyn Cabeon vocals. Besides entertaining the parents or anyone attending in the evenings, they will work with the children during the day. "Ballet West" from Salt Lake City performed at the Manila High School gymnasium September 12 at 1:30 p.m. Those who had seen the group when it was here several years ago and didn't go this time were told that they missed something because it was not the same routines. Temperatures were lower during last week. Usually this follows a storm, but it did not storm (at least, not in Manila). ' There was some thunder and lightning. : Lowest daytime temperature was Friday with a 67 for the days high. It was colder than that in some places in town and some gardens were frosted. Some out of town gardens had been frozen when the weather registered 42 above in town at the weather station. Town officials, county commissioners, com-missioners, water resource representatives and Uintah Basin Association of Governments toured the Long's Park Dam site Wednesday. LonnieBoren and his son, Dean, were in the Manila area Saturday. They were getting wood and fishing. Lonnie is from Centerville, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Iverson of Salt Lake City visited at J.W.'s brother's Howard Iverson's home in Manila from Thursday until Saturday, September 8. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Iverson went to Cokeville to see their son, Kelly, and family. They stayed until Tuesday. On the return trip they went by the way of Logan and Brighanv city to Salt Lake and returned home Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jensen attended the wedding reception Friday of Maureen Crimin, a former classmate of Mrs. Jensen. J.D. Harper was taken ill a week ago Tuesday night. He was taken to the hospital in Salt Lake City. He was released during the past week and returned home September 16. Visiting Elsie Twithell recently have been her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Max Twitchell of Ogden, Utah. Mrs. Twitchell has been in. ill health for about a month. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Long and son ' Devan took a trip last week through Dillon, Montana; Yellowstone, and Cody, Wyoming. Visiting last week at the Norman Long home was Mr. and Mrs. Donald Palmer of California and Mrs. Delma Long of Roosevelt. Visiting at the William Robinson home Friday . evening and Saturday were Mr, and Mrs. Art Robinson and children of Rock Springs, Wyommg. Mr. and Mrs. George Ellsworth were in Salt Lake City the latter part of the week where Mrs. Ellsworth received medical attention. They visited State - Fair while there.. |
