OFFICER JOHN FREE asks birth date of kindergarten student to be engraved on his Students learn bicycle skills Bikes, bikes, bikes, and even more bikes. At least 120 bikes were parked in Central School's bike racks last Friday. What are they there for? The students of Central School, brought them to school for the PTA sponsored Bicycle Safety Day. The students were let out of classes for one hour, beginning at 12 noon to view two movies and have their bicycles inspected. Their bicycle skills bicycle as part of the PTA sponsored rSI Safety Day. DicW were then tested on an obstacle course set up by the Vernal City Police. Sgt. Chuck Hill showed the films "The Day the Bikes Disappeared," a movie about how bikes got tired of being mistreated and left their owners, and "Bicycle Protection" which told students how to properly lock up their bicycles while they are not in use and how to protect them from theft. Officer Hill set up the obstacle course for the students, and Cpt. Mike Hamner and Officer John Parker put the kids through it Officer John Free and Dispatcher Annie Trujillo engraved the initials of the students on his or her bike, and volunteer mothers registered the bikes. The name of the child, his parents' names, the type of bike, the serial number, and the color of the bike were recorded to be part of a record kept by the Vernal City Police Department. The children were given a bicycle license receipt to be kept so if their bike is lost or stolen, the receipt can aid police in recovering the bike.
