a series of booklets on legends crafts and games a map mop series and sound slide-sound presentations you'll come up with a program that can give students a first first- rate fote introduction to that people That is exactly what the Ute Tribes Tribe's Education Department has lias done The departments department's Curriculum Staff and Committee Committee Committee Com Com- have written and published four booklets on Ute History and Culture two booklets on Ute crafts and games three booklets and one hard bound book on Ute Ule legends three map series and a sound slide-sound presentation This package formally called the ute Ule Tribal Curriculum Materials is now available for use in primary and secondary schools in both Uintah and Duchesne counties TO 11 IMPLEMENT I the materials' materials use the Tribes Tribe's Education Department has conducted workshops with teachers from both the Duchesne and Uintah school districts Those workshops were held prior to the beginning of the school year and attendance at by teachers and administrators was excellent The work booklets include problems and projects designed to strengthen basic student skills vocabulary in interpretation interpretation in in- of charts graphs and maps content retention and mathematical problem problem- solving Other ses require the student to reorganize In Information Information in In- formation draw conclusions and relate the students student's reading to other contexts Some exercises ask students to work together to plan and execute larger projects And finally some questions in the booklets will require both students and teachers to draw on the many people archives resources places and published works which expand the study of the Ule Ute people including all the he materials which are part of the general curriculum project The proposal for funding of the project was written by Forrest Cuch Tribal Education director It Il was funded under the US U.S. Office of Education Education- Indian
