Show City a Council Co approves 00 water wafer sewer policies Vernal City councilmen approved the implementation of ofa ofa ofa a connection fee policy for abandoned sewer laterals and an addition to the waterline extension policy in their weekly council meeting held Sept 28 at atthe atthe atthe the city offices A recent survey has shown that abandoned sewer laterals have been identified as a source of groundwater in infiltration in filtration into sewer system The council in an effort to eliminate sources of infiltration infiltration infiltration in in- filtration has voted to reduce the amount of the required sewer connection fee by fifty percent for any abandoned sewer lateral that will be rehabilitated or replaced In an effort to bring existing sewer laterals which have been abandoned into compliance with city specifications the city is charging only half of the regular fee if the person paying for the sewer connection will fix or replace the abandoned sewer lateral The council defined an abandoned sewer lateral as one from which the structure being serviced by the sewer lateral has been removed and the sewer lateral has not been used for at least eighteen months following the removal of the structure THE TIIE COUNCIL also approved approved ap ap- proved a point nine-point addition to the waterline extension policy in their meeting With the approval of the addition to the waterline extension extension ex ex- tension policy the council gains additional flexibility and latitude for action in areas with 10 inch waterlines where previously they haven't had any latitude It also gives people in those thOe areas alternatives to their waterline extension problems if they had previously been denied an extension City Manager Glade I I.
