Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Just a case of a good big man meeting a good little man. Joey Maxim just carried too many guns for Sugar Ray. Fourteen pounds is just too many at their weight. Doesn't make much difference dif-ference after 185 but up to that weight is a big difference. Don't be surprised if Sugar don't hand them up. It is understood that he is all set financially. Just a question of a man of Robinson's temperament being able to take it away from the adoration of the crowd. The fight talk around Utah now is Layne against Charles. I understand Ogden is still in the market. Well as I have said before, be-fore, it is something to talk a-bout a-bout anyway. But taking Charles on his showing against Walcott I think Layne would have a good chance of beating him. But the only chance of Utah getting a match like that is, for somebody with the money to come along and say to some promotor here is the dough, go ahead. But as of now we don't have a promoter with that kind of money or backing. back-ing. While we are on the boxing subject, Bob Ford has a number of boys working out at the club, and we may be able to have a card in the near future featuring loca ltalent against outside boys. Baron von Stianme paid us a visit and he was impressed by the facilities to train fighters that he saw in the club. Baseball has been slowed up by the weather the past week. Bingham won from American Fork 6 to 4 and the Legion team took Tooele 18 to 1 as Apostal, the regular first baseman for the locals took the mound to pitch a no hitter. Walks cost him the one run. Bingham's Industrial League team lost to Provo Wednesday night. Manager Mac Peyton has just run out of pitchers. Vic Stuckenschneider was injured in the Brigham City game. The management are trying to come up with some help for the second sec-ond half. Until then, will be seeing you. AL P.S. Don't forget another bingo night at the Gemmell club next Monday, June 30, at 7:30. |
