Show Even the law prohibiting the further importation of Chinese into this country has not satisfied the anti-Chinese sentiment of a certain class in California, as is indicated by the following particulars of an outrage perpetrated on some Chinamen at a point in southern California on Oct. 2: A number of Chinese vegetable peddlers, who occupied a cabin near their garden, about four miles northeast of Anaheim, and who were attacked here, have been made the subjects of a deadly assault by some unknown party and one of them killed and another seriously wounded. The party who did the shooting rode up to the cabin of the Chinamen and asked them to come out. Instead of obeying the order the inmates of the house attempted to bar the door, when several shots were fired from the outside and the door then burst open, after which several more shots were fired and the assaulting party left. Two other Chinamen went to Anaheim for aid for their unfortunate countrymen, and when they returned found the situation as stated. Two well-known young men of Anaheim and two girls from Orange are supposed to be the party who did the shooting. The two young men are under arrest and the body of the Chinaman is at the Morgue. |
