Show The fact that the Presbyterian chapel at Nephi was, a few days since, discovered to be on fire, is being used as an evidence that some "Mormon" incendiary had been at work. Why should any "Mormon" desire to destroy the chapel? The facts are the "Mormons" have never opposed the erection of churches in their towns by other denominations, and many prominent "Mormons" have followed the example of Brigham Young and contributed to such enterprises, in some instances quite liberally. If a member of the "Mormon" Church can be proven guilty of an attempt to burn the Presbyterian chapel at Nephi, his co-religionists will rejoice to see the penalty of the law inflicted upon him. But we protest against such charges being made unless they are supported by proof. |
