Show FOUL BROOD. EDITOR LEADER - By request, I offer some of my experience on foul brood, having been able to understand the cause and workings of this brood ?? from observations and study. This disease seems to have been known since bees were domesticated, having been mentioned by ancient writers on a ??. It will often ruin and annihilate whole apiaries if not stayed in its progress. In this county, it is but little known at present, but I think it best to be on the safe side by preventing its appearance. Before foul brood makes its appearance certain signs foretell the disease which will admonish the bee-keepers to be cautious. First, the colony is not as industrious as others of the size and ??; Second, on examination, the brood will be found to be scattered, empty cells here and there where ?? brood should be. A few days after on examining the colony, there will be seen in some cells, small holes in the sealing, which will present a sunken appearance and on opening the cells, a brown, ropy, bad smelling mass will be found. |
