Show A MAMMOTH BUILDING. New York, Jan. 21, 1882. The new building to be erected by Cryus [Cyrus?] W. Field on the site of the old Washington estate, facing the Battery, is to be one of the finest and largest in this country. It will be 16 stories high, and have a frontage of over 500 feet. Its cupola will command a view of the whole city and surroundings, and will also bring into view the lighthouses at Sandy Hook. It will cover about half an acre of ground, and will be built in the most approved style of architecture. It will be one of the ornaments of this metropolis, and will cost nearly $1,000,000. The offices of the Mail Express, of which Mr. Field is proprietor, will be constructed on the most approved models, insuring the best of light and air, combining comfort with utility for the newspaper business. The fastest presses in the country are being built for the paper, and telegraph wires will connect the office with all parts of the world. The mammoth building will be ready for occupancy before next New Year's day. |
