Show AMERICAN FORK CO-OPERATIVE INSTITUTION. The American Fork Co-operative Institution was organized and incorporated incor-porated in 1868 with a capital of $25,-000.00. $25,-000.00. It conducted a general merchandise business under this incorporation, with some changes in officers and directors di-rectors until February, 1893. In 1893 the business was re-incorporated with an authorized capital of $100,000.00, for a term of fifty years. The business of the institution was conducted until 1899 in a frame building build-ing located on the comer of Main and Church streets. In this year tlie institution in-stitution erected a brick building, 50X 90 feet, adjoining the old store on the east, and began the occupancy of the same, the stock was increased considerably, con-siderably, and at this time they were doing a flourishing business. On Mlay 10, 1901, the buildings and stock were entirely destroyed by fire, entailing loss of about $65,000.00. The main store building was rebuilt the same year and was ready for occupancy occu-pancy on October 1st. Other buildings build-ings have been added on the tast, north and west, notably the two-story pressed brick and stone bank building cornering on Main and Church streets, erected in 1906, until the institu'ion now covers an area of approximately 200 by 125 feet. The business is conducted on the department store principle at the present time consisting of seven departments, de-partments, as follows: Dry Goods. y Clothing and Shoes, Grocery, Hard- ! ware and Stoves, Furniture, Grain and Produce, and Meat Department. ; In 1906 the stock and business of the J American Fork Farmers' Union were purchased. The institution carries a large as- , sortment of stock in all the various lines of business in which it is en- ' gaged, and is pleased to report to its , patrons and friends a steady and continuous con-tinuous increase in the volume of business. "Fair dealing" has always been its motto, and it hopes to so servo the people that it may continue to merit in the future the name "The People's Store."
