Show scout news by dolores sullivan it was early rising last friday morning for one of tooele thoele s girl scout troops under the direction of mrs wood and mrs edwards about seventeen gir s participated in an early morning cookout cook out at sawmill flat settlement canyon assisted by martha baby program aide the scouts cooked delicious breakfasts and then proceeded to work off the food by hiking hikin g and playing baseball the troop cretu return rn ed home at about eleven 0 clock just in time to eat again it won t be long now before a new brownie troop will be organ iced under the direction of mrs N F burger brownies are girls who are not yet old enough to be come intermediate girl scouts but are interested in the program am and wish someday to become regular scouts these youngsters will de vote their time primarily to to handi handi craft work and will prepare them selves for community servi service ce when they become intermediates fall is almost here and with fall and the opening of school comes the abatement of summer cookouts swims and hikes now is the time of year when the gyls be gin to think of more badge work and an all round settling down is found in the troops however many of the girls find it d to attend meetings during the fall and winter because of school work and such and the leaders have a hard time finding days suitan e for meetings such is the problem which troop 2 under the diorec tion of mrs burger is experiencing mrs burger s troop is composed of the oldest group of scouts in too ele and meetings after school just dont don t seem to work out for thes girls they only serve to waste the valuable time of both the leader and the girls therefore a plan has been suggested by which tho girls will get more accomplished and will get much more enjoyment out of doing so instead of meet pg rig once a week why don t the girls of this troop arrange to meet ev ery other week at a differ ert members home each time of course mrs burger would need the cooperation of all the mothers if this plan were put into effect bu I 1 m sure that the results would be well worth the small effort on tte part of the g ris and their mo perhaps half the meeting could be devoted to badge work and the other half to light refresh ments and the good old gab tests which teen age girls like so much when scouts reach this age I 1 think that they are capable of holding night meetings providing these get to gethers break up at an early hour school activities such as assembly practices games homework etc make it ally impossible to hold afternoon meetings and get full benefit from them one meeting one girl would be there the next meeting adoth er and so on the girls and the leader know from experience that this arrangement is not justice to the scouting program so if the mothers would consent I 1 in sure the girls would do much more work and get just twice as much enjoyment and benefits out of ev ening meetings those who are not interested any longer in scouting might just as well drop out since they only serve to hold back them selves and the others in the troop but it would be a shame it if the re daining ones could rit carry on working into senior scouting and then into program aides so come on scouts and mothers let s really give this new plan a trials trial and do our best to make it work out I 1 im in certain it will be an ex cellena solution to the problem and will really be of benefit to the scouts |
