Show bail set for cattle thieves at 1 1000 bail for lonn lorin E pugh 33 and thomas H simpson 30 of gar field who admitted killing 2 calves and a ewe and driving them off in their car monday was set in judge frank W Frai leys court at 1000 both men raised the money and were released these modern cattle rustlers killed the sheep and calves along the highway just south of the via duct monday august 25 with a 22 pistol the livestock was the prop erty of erb johnson tooele thoele acting on an undisclosed tip from a man who recognized the men in handy corner deputy sher iff bill sharp aided by bill rey of the salt lake county sher iff s office traced the men down when they were positively tied fied by the watchman at the ar thur mills S ampson was picked up at the mill thursday morning and pugh was apprehended at his home in garfield a few hours later admitting that they had killed the livestock simpson and pugh said that they had kicked the am mals out of their car as they made their getaway but even though the culprits took the officers to the spot where the animals were allegedly left at the side of the road mr sharp said no traces of such actions could be found the two men had been drink ing but not so much that they didn dian t come prepared td A 22 pis tol a hunting knife and nd a file were their instruments one calf was dressed at the scene of the rob bery and placed in the rear of the car the ewe was put in the back seat undressed one calf was just shot and left lying in the field both men are natives of utah and reside in garfield they have been charged with grand larceny and their trial will probably come up when the district trials are opened in september |
