Show Keith-Pntorson Elected. Moab Chamber President Members of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce Board of Directors met last Friday to elect officers to govern the organization organ-ization during the coming year. Chosen as president pres-ident of the group was Keith Peterson, owner of Peterson Ford. Mr. Peterson succeeds Blaine Shields, who held the position for the past two years. To serve as vice-pres. a position held this year by Rodney Phillips, will be Les Erbes, TV news commentator. Treasurer Treasur-er for the coming year will be Loraine Hofer, , employee of the Times-Independent. Times-Independent. This position pos-ition has been held by Betty Schumaker for the Past year. Installation of the new-officers new-officers will take place at the annual banquet of e club on Monday, December 4, at the Sun-Downer Sun-Downer Restaurant. To be emcee for the even-tig even-tig is Dick Hammer, a member of the Board f Directors. Bill Ho ward, sportscaster for the Utah Stars basketball team, will be the guest of honor at the dinner. During the past year, emphasis at the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce has shifted from that of being primarily tourist-business oriented to concern for betterment of the businesses bu-sinesses already in Moab. The shift came about after the formation of the Grand County Travel Tra-vel Council, a group designed de-signed to deal with all tourist enterprises in the area. The shift became apparent ap-parent last year with the second annual Christmas promotion, sponsored by the Chamber. The promotion pro-motion encouraged local businesses to make shopping at home easier and more profitable to the consumer than going out of town. The Chamber Cham-ber also continued its annual Jeep Safari with this year's visitors for the event reaching record re-cord numbers. The first annual "Community "Com-munity Picnic" held at that time experienced some difficulties with the weather. Some events had to be changed at the last minute because of rain, however theCham-hor theCham-hor Rnarrt indicated that the Picnic will be held again next year with more advance planning as well as additional events. The beauty contest, con-test, which was held in conjunction with the picnic pic-nic is now being considered consi-dered for expansion which would make the winner eligible for entrance en-trance in the Miss Utah contest. Plans for the coming year include expansion of current projects as well as initiation of some new ones. Chamber Board members are currently soliciting suggestions sug-gestions from local businessmen bu-sinessmen for ways to make the Chamber a more effective organization. organiza-tion. Suggestions of this type may be sent to the Chamber office or given to any officer or member of the Board of Directors. Direc-tors. An increase in membership is also hoped ho-ped for this year and any new members will be given a chance to sub- mit suggestions for improvement im-provement of the organization. |
