Show 85th Birthday... Mrs. Edna Gibbons Ekker Robison, Hanks ille's oldest resident, celebrated her 85th birthday June 1st at the home of her daughter and family, Julia and Larry Cheskaty, in La Mesa, California. Edna is the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Julia Ann Stoddard Gibbons. She married Cornelius Ekker, August 28, 1907. To this marriage was born 12 children, nine boys and three girls. Nelius passed away in 1952 and she married Harry Phillips in 1953. Following his death she married Martin Robison in 1957. He passed away in 1972. During these 85 years she's, lead a very active life. She served as midwife to the community and delivered many of the Hanksville's residents. During her childhood she knew the famous outlaw, Butch Cassidy, who bought supplies from her father's general store.. She's been interviewed repeatedly by writers recording this period of history. She and Nelius operated a cafe and boarding house in Hanksville following their leaving the Granite Ranch which served as a 'way-station' for hundreds of travelers crossing this country. She now boasts of 47 grandchildren, 60 great-grand children and three great-great granddaughters. |
