Show National Safe Boating Week July 4-70 The Park Service would like to remind everyone that the Twentieth Anniversary of the Observance of Saft Boating Week occurs during this bicentennial summer. The week of July 4-10 has been dedicated to safety in boating as well as commemorating the Nation's, birthday. During 1975 a total of four boating accidents resulted in the death of seven persons on Lake Powell. The record for 1976, so far, is much better as there have been no fatalities on Lake Powell as a result of boating incidents, although we have had three drownings from swimming accidents. Visitors to Lake Powell are admonished to boat as safely as possible, use proper fueling techniques, provide and use required safety equipment and be prepared to stay out overnight should storms make the lake unsafe. It is better to be late getting home than to have a serious accident in stormy water. Have a happy, safe boating week and a safe boating summer. |
