Show j 1 8 Months to be Required To Repair Huntington Plant The time estimated to return Utah Power and Light Co.'s Huntington first unit to service has been reduced from a maximum of 30 to 18 months and the unit is expected to be back in commercial service by the end of 1977, according to UP&L President E. Allan Hunter. Mr. Hunter said the time reduction was effected through the cooperation of General Electric, manufacturer manufactur-er of the turbine generator. In the interim, he said arrangements have been concluded con-cluded to supply power to the customers of UP&L without interruption barring failure of some larger generating units on either the UP&L system or the systems of neighboring utilities from whom the power is being purchased. Mr. Hunter also said that the company is trying to get the Huntington Plant second unit, now under construction, in service as early as possible, and that it may initially be on the line as early as February 1977. The Huntington Plant failure fail-ure occurred in the early morning of June 12 when during a switching process a high voltage switch failed to open and isolate the generator from the company's transmission transmis-sion system. The unit which was shut down was connected to the system and charged at high voltage causing reverse rotation of the generator and explosion and fire. |
