Show Green River Melon Days Scheduled This Weekend Green River's annual Melon Days celebration is scheduled for this weekend, and a full round of activities has been planned, it was announced this week by Pearl Baker, president of the Green River Chamber of Commerce. Activities will begin on Saturday with the annual Melon Days Parade, which will begin at 10 a.m., running from the Fire House to the City Park. Prizes for best entries in the parade will be presented at the Park. Beginning at 11:30, children's games will be held at the Park, with bicycle races, sack races, tug-of-war and others being featured, and prizes will be awarded to winners. Continuing at the Park for the remainder of the day will be concessions and games running all the time. Saturday night, the Fire Department is sponsoring a dance at the Fire House, featuring the Sundusters of Moab for music. m m nll . Sunday has been devoted to a big SRA Point Motocross race at the Wilson Raceway. Signup time begins at 7:30 a.m., with practicing for various classes of bikes beginning at 8 p.m. The Green River group of the Emery County Sheriff s Posse will run the motocross, under the direction of Laddie King. The Posse Pals will have their bus at the race track, and will be selling food and soft drinks all day. On Friday evening, Channel 7 will feaure a special film on Green River, beginning at 7 p.m., to honor Melon Days, it was reported. Green River has extended an invitation to surrounding communities to attend the big event, which, overall, will feature the famous Green River watermelons. water-melons. . |
