Show Dead Horse point Park Travel Up Over Last Year Visitation for the monthof March totaled 3,453 persons, with only 244 of those staying stay-ing over night in the park campground, It was announced announc-ed this week by Superintendent Superinten-dent Mike Barker. Visitation for the month of March last year totaled 2,201, making this March 57 over the same month a year ago. To date the park has had 4,927 visitors. During this same period in 1974, the park had 3,012 visitors, making this year to date 64 over last year. This past Easter weekend was the slowest the park has had over the past six years. During the three day period, per-iod, Friday through Sunday, the park recorded 1,142 persons, per-sons, about half the number expected. Due to the heavy snowfall in the park between 10 and 12 inches camping was light with only 57 persons camping for the same period. Last Easter, over 400 persons camped over the Easter weekend at Dead Horse Point. For those persons traveling trav-eling to the park pulling trailers or large campers, a caution to look out for large holes In the road was issued by Mr. Barker. There are several bad areas on the road after the traveler leaves U.S. 163. The recent Utah Legislature approved the transfer of the road from Grand County to the State Highway Deprtment, but the law will not become effective until the middle of May. "Between now and that date we will have to live with the holes, so please be careful care-ful when driving to the park," Mr. Barker stated. |
