Show fAoab Tracksters Take 2nd In fAesa Invitational The Moab Red Devil tracksters came away with second place honors in last week's annual Mesa College Col-lege Invitational track meet in Grand Junction. The Devils, De-vils, always a power in the track and field events over the past few seasons, placed plac-ed second to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in the B Division of the big meet which drew 23 teams for that division. Heading the list of Red Devil victories was the fine win by the mile relay team which ran a very good time of 3:38:1 for that event. Kim Loveridge, Scott Bent-ley, Bent-ley, Jay Johnson and Bo Johnson teamed up for that mark with Bo Johnson running run-ning a fantastic final lap. The Devils also placed second In the 880 relay with Merrill Noyes, Nick Chavez, Jay Johnson and Don Knowl-es Knowl-es competing In that event. Individual winners for the Devils Included Merrill Noyes first In the long jump .with a leap of 20' 11" followed fol-lowed closely by Bo Johnson John-son with a Jump of 20' 10 12" for second place. Johnson also placed at the top of the list in the 880 run as he hit the tape in 2:04.2 to defeat the rest of the field in that race. Johnson was clocked at near 58 seconds flat for the first 440 in that race. Johnson placed In a tie for fourth place in the high jump as he leaped 5' 10" in that event. Donny Knowles, a base-baller base-baller doing double-duty, picked up more points for the Devils In the 220 yard dash as he placed 4th in that event. Kenny Bonn, in the 120 yard high hurdles, placed 5th in that event with a time of 17.2 and 5th In the triple jump with a leap of 39'11". Coming up this week will be the Moab Invitational, scheduled for Saturday. Field events will start at 10:00 a.m. with the running events slated to begin at 10:30. The Devils will be favored favor-ed to give the rest of the teams a good show with the running events being their specialties. The Devils, however, are quite weak in the field events, and failed to place anyone in the Grand Junction meet. Other schools attending the meet will be Carbon High School of Price, East Carbon, Car-bon, San Juan, Montlcello, Green River and Moab. Carbon Car-bon High School of Price Is the overall favorite with a good amount of depth and strong competitors in the field events. |
